Product description
Common use
Azor is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Lowering blood pressure may lower your risk of a stroke or heart attack. Azor contains a combination of amlodipine and olmesartan. Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker. It works by relaxing the muscles of your heart and blood vessels. Olmesartan is an angiotensin II receptor antagonist (sometimes called an ARB). Olmesartan keeps blood vessels from narrowing, which lowers blood pressure and improves blood flow.
Dosage and direction
Take Azor exactly as prescribed by your doctor. You may take Azor with or without food. Your blood pressure will need to be checked often. Your kidney function may also need to be checked. Keep using Azor as directed, even if you feel well. High blood pressure often has no symptoms.
Precautions
To make sure Azor is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have: kidney disease; liver disease; coronary artery disease; angina (chest pain), congestive heart failure; high levels of potassium in your blood; if you are on a low-salt diet; if you are 75 years or older; or if you recently had a heart attack.
Contraindications
You should not use Azor if you are allergic to amlodipine or olmesartan.
Do not use if you are pregnant. If you become pregnant, stop taking this medicine and tell your doctor right away. Olmesartan can cause injury or death to the unborn baby if you take the medicine during your second or third trimester. You should not breastfeed while using this medicine.
Possible side effect
Common Azor side effects include: swelling; dizziness; flushing (warmth, redness, or tingly feeling); or pounding heartbeats.
Drug interaction
If you have diabetes, do not use Azor together with any medication that contains aliskiren (a blood pressure medicine). You may also need to avoid taking amlodipine and olmesartan with aliskiren if you have kidney disease.
Missed dose
Take the medicine as soon as you can, but skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next dose. Do not take two doses at one time.
Overdose
Seek emergency medical attention.
Storage
Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat. Keep away from children and pets.
