Kenadion Injection

Common use

Kenadion Injection is used to treat and prevent bleeding caused by vitamin K deficiency. It helps restore normal blood clotting in conditions such as malabsorption, liver disease, prolonged antibiotic use, and medication-induced clotting problems. This injection is also used in newborns to prevent bleeding disorders. It supports the production of clotting factors needed to stop bleeding.

Dosage and direction

The injection should be administered either subcutaneously, intramuscularly, or intravenously by a doctor. If given intravenously, it should be administered very slowly at a rate not exceeding 1 mg per minute. Avoid self-administration; always have this injection administered under medical supervision. Precautions

Kenadion Injection (Phytomenadione) is considered safe to use during pregnancy and breastfeeding, as vitamin K deficiency can lead to severe bleeding in both mother and infant. However, it is still advised to consult your doctor before use.
Patients with Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency need to exercise caution when taking this medicine, as it may cause haemolytic anaemia.
Care should be taken in premature infants due to the risk of kernicterus.

Contraindications

Kenadion Injection is contraindicated in patients with known allergies to Phytomenadione or any component of the formulation. Avoid use in patients with severe hepatic impairment or coagulopathy due to increased risk of haematoma formation.

Side effects of Kenadion Injection: Pain at the injection site; Swelling at the injection site; Rash; Itching.

Drug interaction

Kenadion Injection may interact with anticoagulants (such as warfarin), antibiotics (such as cephalosporins and salicylates), and fat malabsorption agents (such as orlistat and cholestyramine).

Missed dose

If you forget to take this medicine, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule.

Overdose

An overdose of Kenadion Injection may cause symptoms like flushing, unusual taste, sweating, dizziness, shortness of breath, etc. If you observe these symptoms, inform your doctor and follow their advice accordingly.

Storage

Store Kenadion Injection in a cool and dry place, shielded from light. The suitable storage temperature for this medicine is below 25°C. Keep the injection away from children's reach.
