Ornidazole

Common use

Ornidazole is an antibiotic used to treat infections caused by anaerobic bacteria and parasites. It is commonly prescribed for vaginal infections, intestinal infections like amoebiasis, and conditions such as giardiasis and trichomoniasis. Ornidazole helps eliminate the infection, reduce symptoms, and prevent further spread of the disease.

Dosage and direction

Swallow tablets whole with a glass of water. Take during or immediately after meals to reduce stomach discomfort. Take at the same time(s) each day to maintain consistent levels in the body. Finish the entire prescription, even if symptoms disappear early, to ensure the infection is completely treated.

Precautions

Patients with renal or hepatic conditions should exercise caution when taking Ornidazole. This medicine is not recommended in pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Contraindications

Ornidazole should not be used by individuals with a known hypersensitivity to Ornidazole or any other medication belonging to the nitroimidazole group of antimicrobial agents.

Possible side effect

Side effects of Ornidazole: Headache; Dizziness; Taste disturbances; Nausea; Vomiting.

Drug interaction

Ornidazole could potentially interact with blood thinners like warfarin and muscle relaxants such as vecuronium bromide.

Missed dose

If you miss its dose, take it as soon as you remember. But, if the next dose is near, skip the missed dose and resume the regular dosing regime.

Overdose

If you take more medicine than you should, inform your doctor and follow the advice accordingly.

Storage

Keep your Ornidazole in a cool place. Store it in a dry area where it's not exposed to direct sunlight. Keep this medicine out of the reach and sight of children and pets.
