Shelcal

Common use

Shelcal is used to treat low calcium levels in the body. It helps with conditions like weak bones (osteoporosis), Vitamin D deficiency, low parathyroid hormone levels, muscle cramps (latent tetany), and bone diseases like rickets and osteomalacia. Calcium is essential for strong bones and teeth, while Vitamin D3 helps the body absorb calcium properly. This combination also supports muscle function and overall bone health.

Dosage and direction

Start with one tablet twice daily with food or use it as directed by the physician. To be consumed with a full glass of water or milk.

Precautions

The dosage of this combination should align with the recommended allowances for their condition for pregnant and breastfeeding women, as advised by a doctor, considering their potential increased vitamin requirements.
Consult your doctor before taking Shelcal if you have kidney or liver issues to ensure its safety and proper dosage.

Contraindications

Shelcal is contraindicated in patients with known allergies to elemental calcium or vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol).

Drug interaction

Shelcal could interact with medications used to treat high cholesterol levels (such as cholestyramine, colesevelam, colestipol), antibiotics (including doxycycline, minocycline, ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin, penicillin, neomycin, and chloramphenicol), anti-cancer drugs (like estramustine), medications for bone loss (such as alendronate), thyroid hormone replacement therapy (levothyroxine), weight-loss medications (like orlistat), antiepileptic drugs (phenobarbital), mineral oils (such as paraffin), diuretics (like furosemide, ethacrynic acid), and heart-related medications (including digitoxin).

Missed dose

If you forget to take Shelcal, take it as soon as you remember. However, avoid repeating the dose.

Overdose

Overdose of Shelcal causes anorexia, excessive thirst, feeling sick (nausea), vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, muscle weakness, fatigue, mental health problems, increased urine output, bone pain, and kidney stones. Inform your doctor and follow the instructions accordingly.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, moisture and heat. Keep out of the reach of children and pets.
