Common use

Tibofem is a sex hormone for women (estrogen). This is a form of hormone replacement treatment (HRT) used to treat menopause symptoms such hot flushes, vaginal dryness, and itching, as well as oestrogen shortage and bone loss (osteoporosis).

Dosage and direction

Follow your doctor's instructions on the dosage and duration of Tibofem. Take it all in at once. It should not be chewed, crushed, or broken. Tibofem can be taken with or without food, however It is best if you take it at the same time every day.

Precautions

Women with liver disease should exercise caution when using Tibofem due to its extensive metabolism in the liver.
Caution should also be exercised in women with a history of thromboembolic disorders due to an increased risk of blood clots.

Contraindications

Tibofem is contraindicated during pregnancy and while breastfeeding. It can harm the developing baby. If you are planning to become pregnant or are breastfeeding, consult your doctor before starting Tibofem.
This medicine is contraindicated in women with unexplained vaginal bleeding, active history of venous thromboembolism, active or recent thromboembolic disease (e.g., angina, myocardial infarction), liver disease or liver function test abnormalities, known or suspected oestrogen-dependent malignant tumours, and porphyria.

Possible side effect

Adverse effects of Tibofem: Breast pain, Vaginal bleeding, Weight gain, Abnormal hair growth, Breast tenderness, Cervical thickening, Endometrial hyperplasia, Genital itching, Lower abdominal pain, Pelvic pain, Vaginal discharge.

Drug interaction

Tibofem (Tibolone) can interact with anticonvulsants (such as phenytoin and carbamazepine), antimicrobials (like rifampicin and griseofulvin), antiretrovirals (including ritonavir and nelfinavir), and herbal supplements containing St. John's wort.

Missed dose

If you miss a dose of Tibofem, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten tablet.

Overdose

An overdose of Tibofem may lead to symptoms such as nausea, dizziness, and vaginal bleeding. If these symptoms occur, it is important to seek medical advice immediately.

Storage

Store Tibofem in a cool and dry place. Protect the medicine from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep it out of reach and sight of children and pets.
